Headaches and

Migraines

Headaches are a common cause of pain and you will experience a headache at some point in your life.  The term "headache" is associated with pain around the head, face and neck area.

Common causes of headache/migraine:

  • Muscle tension

  • Poor posture

  • Disc bulges

  • Joint degeneration

  • Whiplash

  • Neck stiffness

  • Arthritis

  • Weak neck and shoulder muscles

  • Poor sleeping posture

  • Repetitive activity and overuse

  • TMJ and jaw problems

  • Infections

Things to try at home:

  • Hot pack on neck and shoulders

  • Gentle neck and shoulder stretches

  • Drink more water

  • Deep breathing techniques (slow 5 second breath in, hold for 5 seconds, slow breath out for 5 seconds)

  • Visit your Optometrist to assess vision and possible contribution from eyes

When should you seek treatment for headache?

Seek Physiotherapy advice if your headache is not caused by dehydration, an infection and if they occur regularly. It is not normal to experience headaches unless something is wrong. Even severe headaches can be caused by simple reasons such as poor posture, weakness in the neck/shoulder and joint stiffness (just to name a few).

Physio Physique will assess and treat the cause of your headaches/migraines without the use of medications. Pain should subside quickly and you will likely feel improvement with one treatment. Contributing factors such as poor posture, tight muscles and joint stiffness will need to be corrected for long term improvement.

Do not accept headache as part of your life. There are many natural treatments and strategies that can reduce headaches for good.
