Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

What is Chinese Medicine?

Chinese Medicine is an alternative / natural medicine approach first used in China at least 2200 years ago. TCM utilises different theories (including Yin and Yang, Zang Fu, the Five Elements etc.) to diagnose and treat ailments from a holistic perspective. The aim is to ensure optimal balance of all aspects. If there is an imbalance in the body, different diseases will result.

Chinese Medicine aims to target the root of the problem, however, as it doesn't just mask the signs and symptoms, the effects may not be felt immediately.

Example of Imbalance - Liver Qi Stagnation

A person with liver qi stagnation may experience symptoms including: irritability, mood swings, digestive imbalances, pain in the ribs, irregular menstruation, PMS, hypochondriac pain, a bitter taste in the mouth. The treatment principle is to regulate Liver Qi Stagnation.

A Chinese Medicine Practitioner may prescribe Chai Hu Shu Gan Tang (herbal formula) to assist with relieving the above mentioned symptoms.
